The Quill & Quiver Fiber headquarters --150-year-old Barn Studio Tour!

As we prepare for our first shop update on September 18th, we thought it would be fun to show some behind the scenes pictures of where all of the Quill & Quiver Fiber yarns are made….in our 150-year-old barn studio. You may have seen the barn in the background of some of our recent product photos. Christy and her husband Dave revitalized a former cow barn on their property in the Champlain Valley of Vermont to serve as the Quill & Quiver Fiber dye studio.

Christy and I met in graduate school in Philadelphia while studying historic preservation and bonded over their love of history and craft. She worked as a materials conservator for over a decade and used her conservation skills to bring the barn back to life. She dyes all of the yarns in the Quill & Quiver Fiber line in the studio space in the barn. The creation of the studio was a true labor of love by Christy's family and friends in Vermont.

Dave can fix anything, and he put in many weekends of hard labor getting the studio up and running. And our friend Sid helped clear out 50 years of debris to reveal the original floor. Christy restored the windows and provided the interior design for the space, which is now a fully functioning dye studio where all of the yarns for the fall Story Collections were made!

We love the details like the historic barn doors and restored wood windows reused to create a transom to provide ventilation inside the studio. The new home of our business represents everything Quill & Quiver Fiber is about -- drawing inspiration from the crafts and workmanship of the past and celebrating the people keeping those traditions alive.

Below are shots of the construction process from start to finish!

The sweeping views of the meadow from the barn provide a sense of connection with the surrounding landscape and wildlife who occasionally visit (like the resident gopher and colony of barn swallows). I grabbed a quick video to capture the ambiance of the rural setting of the barn when I visited in June.

You can purchase one of the first yarns created in the new Quill & Quiver Fiber studio during our shop update on Saturday, September 18th at 9am PST. We will offer the Fall 2021 Story Collections (also available now for pre-order) and full-size skeins of all of the colorways included in The Beekeeper and The Painted Hive Story Collections. Stay tuned via our newsletters and Instagram account (@quillandquiverfiber) for updates.

Thank you for following along,
Gretchen
